چکیده

Spray-dried detergent granules have a complex and multi-scale structure, in which submicron sized crystals of inorganic salts along with multi-lamellar stacks surfactant molecules are dispersed within matrix phase. In this study, two model formulations based on sodium linear alkylbenzene sulphonate (NaLAS) sulphate were used to investigate the molecular structure stacked lamellae. The parameters lamellar d-spacing, bilayer thickness (dHH) water layer (dW) determined using small-angle X-ray scattering. Four sets lamellae detected nil-silicate powders conditioned at 33 % RH (relative humidity). exposure these samples higher level (75 %) resulted reduced number coexisting phases by two. This was accompanied an increase d-spacings considerable reduction thicknesses (dHH). explained fluidity disappearance water-poor solid polymorphs. consistent results FTIR for samples, indicating conformational disorder alkyl chains value. Interestingly, presence silicate display greater degree swelling relatively low value (33 RH) as compared those absence silicate. Nonetheless, found slightly decrease %), attributed moisture-induced glass transition kosmotropic effect silicates.

Application of small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) for differentiation between normal and cancerous breast tissues

ABSTRACT Background: Coherent scattering leads to diffraction effects and especially constructive interferences. Theseinterferences carry some information about the molecular structure of the tissue. As breast cancer isthe most widespread cancer in women, this project evaluated the application of small angleX-ray scattering (SAXS) for differentiation between normal and cancerous breast tissues....

Elastic deformations in hexagonal phases studied by small-angle X-ray diffraction and simulations.

In this study we present experimental and theoretical results which concern the deviations from circularity of the pivotal plane in the inverse hexagonal phases (H(II)) of phospholipid self-assemblies. Due to packing constraints, the cross-section of the polar/apolar interface deviates from a circle, which we studied in minute detail by analysing small-angle X-ray diffraction data of dioleoyl-p...

Simultaneous measurements of small angle x-ray scattering, wide angle x-ray scattering, and dielectric spectroscopy during crystallization of polymers

A novel experimental setup is described which allows one to obtain detailed information on structural and dynamical changes in polymers during crystallization. This technique includes simultaneous measurements of small angle-wide angle x-ray scattering and dielectric spectroscopy ~SWD!. The capabilities of the technique have been probed by following in real time the crystallization process of a...

Lateral order in gel, subgel and crystalline phases of lipid membranes: wide-angle X-ray scattering.

The chain packing in ordered phases of lipid bilayers can be classified according to wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXS). For triclinic (T(‖)) and monoclinic (M(‖)) packing in crystalline L(c) phases, the wide-angle reflections index on an oblique lattice with spacings s(10)≠s(01)≠s(11), and each chain has four nearest neighbours. For orthorhombic (O(⊥)) packing in L(c) phases, and the rotation...

Structural Significance of Lipid Diversity as Studied by Small Angle Neutron and X-ray Scattering

We review recent developments in the rapidly growing field of membrane biophysics, with a focus on the structural properties of single lipid bilayers determined by different scattering techniques, namely neutron and X-ray scattering. The need for accurate lipid structural properties is emphasized by the sometimes conflicting results found in the literature, even in the case of the most studied ...
